Potassium sulfate for fertilizing potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes

We have a small summer cottage where we grow some vegetables for our own consumption. Last season, the potato crop was not very rich, the cucumbers formed a lot of barren flowers, and the ripe ones acquired a strange shape, like a pear. In addition, the tomatoes lost their color in the green mass and gave small fruits. Friends suggested that this could have happened due to a lack of potassium and advised to apply potash fertilizers. Tell me how to use potassium sulfate to fertilize potatoes, tomatoes and cucumbers?

potassium sulfate Potassium sulfate or potassium sulfate is a concentrated fertilizer based on potassium (50%) in the form of a readily soluble white powder or granules. Potassium sulfate contains no chlorine, so it is an ideal fertilizer for potatoes, tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as other crops that are sensitive to this microelement.

Potassium sulfate can be used for growing garden crops on all types of soil, from sandy soils to clayey.

General recommendations for the use of the drug

The maximum effect of top dressing is achieved with direct fertilization into the soil, especially if the soil is heavy, clayey. To do this, scatter the preparation over the area where tomatoes, cucumbers and potatoes will be grown, and dig up the soil. You can do this procedure both before planting crops, and in the fall, while digging a garden. It is preferable to fertilize sandy light soil just before planting.

As additional dressings based on potassium sulfate you can prepare a solution with which the plants need to be watered at the root during the growing season.

The last feeding with potassium sulfate must be carried out no later than 14 days before harvest.

Fertilizing potatoes

It is recommended to add small granules to the beds before planting. potatoes (30 g per 1 sq. M.) And dig them up. For 1 hundred square meters, only 250 g of the drug will be required.

The second potassium dressing is recommended to be carried out during the formation of root crops, watering the plantings with a solution (30 g per bucket of water).

To enrich the composition of the soil on tomato beds, before planting seedlings, apply a little less fertilizer - 20 g per square meter. During the growing season, feed the tomatoes on the leaf with a solution (for 10 liters of water 35 g of the drug).

Feeding cucumbers

feeding cucumbers

Cucumbers are one of the most demanding crops in terms of potassium, so they should be fed several times during the season:

  1. Before planting cucumbers.
  2. 14 days after disembarkation.
  3. At the beginning of flowering.

With a potassium deficiency, the leaves of cucumbers begin to brighten at the edges.

For root top dressing, pour 20 g of the preparation into a bucket of water, and use no more than 8 g of the preparation for fertilizing cucumbers on a leaf for the same amount of water.
