Seedling raspberry cuttings

Last year I bought several raspberry bushes. She wintered well. I want to try to expand the raspberry tree by planting cuttings. Tell me how to grow raspberry seedlings using cuttings.

The sweet raspberry is probably loved by everyone, without exception. Happy owners of summer cottages on which at least one raspberry bush grows have advantages, because they can propagate it on their own. To do this, you can use the method of growing raspberry seedlings by cuttings.

Raspberry is a shrub plant that forms a branched root with many dormant buds. The cuttings for seedlings can be taken from the shoot (green cutting) or this rhizome (root cutting), in any case, it quickly takes root and takes root well. This method of breeding raspberries attracts attention because:

  • several cuttings can be obtained from one shoot;
  • suitable for breeding raspberry varieties that give poor root shoots;
  • a young raspberry bush has all the varietal characteristics of the bush from which the cutting is taken.

Cuttings are harvested from young growth in early summer, when it gets stronger. To do this, cut the stem, remove the top from it and divide it into 2-3 fragments up to 10 cm long. Each piece should have 3 buds and one left leaf. In this case, you need to cut so that the lower cut is under the sheet.

To speed up the process of the appearance of roots, the cuttings should be dipped in Kornevin's solution or another growth stimulator for 2 hours.

Next, green cuttings should be rooted. You can use one of the following methods:

  1. Rooting in a pot in a greenhouse. Plant the prepared cuttings in pots or a common container with nutritious soil (a mixture of peat, humus and sand in proportions 1: 1: 2). Water the planted cuttings abundantly and place them in a greenhouse (or create greenhouse conditions for them). The root system is formed after 4 weeks, at which time green cuttings must be watered and sprayed regularly.
  2. Rooting in a container of water. With this method of rooting, the cuttings should initially be made up to 20 cm in height. Make shallow scratches every 3 mm near the bottom cut. Next, place the cuttings in a jar of rainwater so that it completely covers the incised bottom cut, but no more. Add water as needed, no need to change.

After rooting, plant the seedlings in separate containers, if this was not done initially. It will be ready for planting in open ground with the onset of autumn and will delight you with the harvest next summer.

Root cuttings are harvested in the fall. Pieces of 15 cm long are cut from a two-year rhizome.They can be planted in open ground in 2 ways:

  1. Immediately after digging. You need to plant the cuttings lying in a trench 7 cm deep, and mulch the leaves on top.
  2. In early spring. To do this, the cuttings are placed in storage in a cellar, placing them in wet sand.
