Making our work easier: what is the principle of operation of automatic drinkers for subsidiary farming

We are planning a "large-scale operation" to raise broilers for sale next year. The question arose about buying an auto-drinker, since there will be a lot of poultry, and besides it, we have another subsidiary farm. I would like to save water and energy. Please explain the principle of the automatic drinker. I heard that there are several types of such devices.

drinker For residents of private houses with subsidiary plots, it is very important that birds and animals grow up healthy, because caring for them is a huge job. One of the most important roles in it is the provision of clean water to its wards. Today, this is quite simple to do using special drinking bowls. They deprive the owner of the need to visit every couple of hours and add a new portion of liquid, since they serve it on their own, but little by little. More specifically, the principle of the automatic drinker can be explained using the examples of two models. Read: how to make a drinker for chickens with your own hands?

Simple bird drinker

The simplest drinker used for poultry consists of a pallet and a small container (bottle or cistern) with the neck down. When the bottle is filled with liquid, its neck is under water, but only that part of the water that is needed to fill the volume of the trough is poured into the sump.

Excess water is not poured out, since the atmospheric pressure in the filled tray itself is higher than in the bottle. When it drops, and the level of liquid in the sump decreases (bird drinks it), the water from the bottle is automatically poured out again to the required volume.

Maintenance of such a drinker is simple and is expressed in a daily water change and flushing of the sump. A similar design is easy to make yourself from a plastic bottle.

Nipple drinkers for poultry

nipple drinker

Recently, nipple drinkers have been gaining popularity. Their advantage lies in the absence of a large pallet into which the bird can climb with its paws and carry debris and excrement, quickly contaminating the water. This is important, because pathogenic bacteria quickly multiply in such water, and the inhabitants of the subsidiary farm begin to get sick.

In a nipple drinker, the water is always clean, since it is supplied in small portions, which also allows you to save money.

Understand how such drinker, it's not difficult if you know what it consists of, and these are just two details:

  • small water tank - drop catcher;
  • the nipple itself.

The nipple device is a plastic body with a valve (most often in the form of a metal ball) and a stem inside. The drinker works in this way: a drop of water constantly hangs on the nipple, but the valve does not allow all the liquid to flow out at once and restrains it. The bird sees the drop and presses the stem with its beak, it moves and moves the ball valve, as a result of which a portion of water appears from the hole.nipple mechanism

The drinking bowl body can be either collapsible with the possibility of replacing the valve or gasket, or one-piece.

A nipple drinker can be easily made at home. To do this, you only need to buy the nipple itself, insert it into the lid of an ordinary plastic bottle and fix it on the cage or elsewhere.
