Breeds of cows for dairy farming and their maintenance

Dairy farming is a profitable business. If you choose a dairy breed of cows and use a good feed base, you can increase the milk yield to 40 liters of milk per day. The most promising breeds of cows for Russia are:

• Ayshirskaya;
• Jersey;
• Holstein.

These breeds have a high genetic potential. Each breed has its own characteristics.

Ayshir breed of cows

Ayshir breed of cows has a low fat content of milk (up to 3%). This milk is ideal for the production of curd and separation. Ayshir cattle reach a weight of 450 kg. The height of the cows is about 125 cm. The coloring of the cow is white with brown spots.

The advantages of the breed include quick adaptation to new conditions of detention. Aishir cows are active and able to travel long distances, therefore they are ideal for pasture or pasture stall keeping.

A cow can be inseminated without losing milk production as early as two years old. Calving is easy and the recovery period after childbirth is relatively short. With the correct feeding program, it is 1.5 months.

Jersey breed of cows

Jersey cows produce milk with a high percentage of fat. The champions of this breed brought milk with a fat content of 8%. The average fat content of milk is 5%. This indicator can be increased or decreased by adjusting the feed base.

The higher the fat content of the milk, the lower its milk yield. Raw potatoes and carrots will help increase the amount of milk. More than 5 kg of potatoes cannot be added to the feed. The high starch content clogs the milk ducts, which reduces milk yield.

Carrots can be added to compound feed up to 8 kg. This addition will change the color of the milk to a beautiful yellow. Milk and cream will turn white again by mid-lactation.

Jersey cows are covered at 1.5 years of age. Calves are fed milk for up to four months.

Holstein breed of cows

There is no pure Holstein cow in Russia. Purebred cows are purchased only by farms engaged in industrial livestock raising. In personal subsidiary farms, a cross between Holstein cows is bred with other breeds.

The Holstein breed of cows has a high milk yield. You can get up to 40 liters of milk per day. The lactation period in animals is 305 days.
