Planting fruit trees on the site

seedlings of fruit trees In order to get a good harvest of fruits every year, you need to properly plant fruit trees on the site. It is also worth choosing high-quality planting material. A strong seedling will enter the fruiting period faster and will form a large number of fruit buds.

Choosing a quality seedling

Saplings are grafted and rooted. The survival rate of self-rooted fruit trees is higher than the rooting of grafted plants. Regardless of the type of seedling, when choosing a fruit tree, you need to examine its root system. It must be developed.

In seedlings with a superficial root system, the roots reach 10 cm, and the root system is fibrous. Trees with mixed root systems must have a developed central root. The roots of a nut seedling, for example, reach 15 cm. The nut has a distinct central root.

These rules do not apply to grafted seedlings, since fruit plants are grafted onto the Antipka or Quince A stock, for which wild trees are used.

A seedling obtained by grafting should have a clear border between the stock and the scion - the root collar. The grafting is usually located at a height of 10 cm from the root system, in some fruit trees - 15 - 20 cm higher.

Whenever possible, choose seedlings with a closed root system. The survival rate of such planting material is much higher than that of open-root seedlings. With the right preparation for landing fruit tree will take root during the season.

Site preparation for transplanting a seedling

A fruit tree seedling takes root well in a sunny place. When preparing a site for planting, the following work is carried out:

  1. Dig a hole, discarding the fertile soil layer in one direction, and barren soil in the other.
  2. Fertile soil is mixed with rotted cow dung.
  3. The seedling hole is filled with the resulting mixture by a third, and then a small mound is made.
  4. The well is watered with warm water.
  5. After the water is absorbed, the seedling is removed from the container and placed in the center of the mound.

The mound must be made so that the roots of the seedling are not directed upwards, but evenly spread over the entire hill.

When planting, it is important not to deepen the root collar of the plant, therefore, the grafting of the fruit tree is raised 10 cm above the soil level.

Then the hole is covered with fertile soil, and the seedling is well watered. A peg is driven in near the seedling. It is advisable to tie up young fruit trees so that they do not break from the wind.
