The original way to grow radishes in egg trays

growing radishes in egg trays Every gardener grows radish, because this garden crop is one of the most unpretentious. In addition, it ripens earlier than other vegetables, and a whole complex of nutrients can fit in small red-sided root crops.

Usually radish sown in beds, and after the seeds sprout, the seedlings are thinned out to avoid thickening, because if the planting is too dense, the crop will be very small and go into the arrow. But resourceful summer residents also figured out how to make their work easier - they plant radishes in ordinary pressed paper trays in which eggs are sold. These trays are a great (and cheap) alternative to special cassettes as they also have compartments.

What is the point of using cassette trays?

In addition to even and beautiful beds, growing radishes in such impromptu cassettes has other advantages:

  • small seeds are convenient to sow;
  • seedlings do not need to be thinned out;
  • planting does not need mulching and loosening;
  • no need to remove weeds due to their complete absence.

How to prepare a cassette bed?

Before you start seeding, you need to prepare the cassettes. To do this, on each tray, cut off the tops of the cells on one side with a sharp clerical knife. Through holes should be the same size.

Now dig up the bed directly and level the soil well with a rake so that the surface is even.

A place for planting radishes should be set aside on the sunny side of the site.

Place the prepared trays tightly next to each other on the dug and leveled area. It is better to do this in one row to make it easier to care for the seedlings.

The trays must be pressed lightly into the ground so that it protrudes through the holes in the cassettes. If this is not done, the seed may roll under the tray.

To prevent the cassettes from being blown away by the wind, they must be fixed. You can use wire for this purpose, from which to make small staples.

Sowing seeds in cassettes

Put one seed in each slotted cell through which the earth spilled into the cassettes. When all trays are full, cover them with earth on top and water abundantly.

Sand can be used instead of soil.

Easy planting care

All further care of the radish consists in regular watering. The first shoots will appear in a week, and then the radish will actively grow roots, without going into the tops and without cracking. After all, both space and light in the cassettes are enough for him. And it's very easy to harvest - just pull the bush by the tops and the radish will leave the tray without any difficulties.
