Growing aspidistra in indoor conditions

growing aspidistra at home Aspidistra is a green flower grown in offices and apartments with limited access to sunlight.

Only one variety of green flowers is grown in the apartment - “aspidistru high". This variety is resistant to dust, so it takes root well in indoor conditions. Growing high aspidistra is suitable for novice growers. A green flower can grow both in the back of the room and on the sunniest window. This plant is unpretentious to the composition of the soil and grows well in ordinary garden soil. Aspidistra is very tenacious due to the absence of a stem and slow growth; it takes root well even on clayey stony soil.

The rhizome of the aspidistra looks like a woven ball of snakes. In nature, this medicinal plant is found near water bodies where snakes and other non-venomous snakes are found. Therefore, the name of the flower is translated into Russian as "Index of snakes".

Aspidistra care

Aspidistra does not like stagnant water and drying out of the soil, so there must be a drainage layer in the pot. Watering the aspidistra is necessary every day. Wipe the leaves of the flower from dust regularly, and also spray with cold water. Fertilizing a tall aspidistra is not necessary, but the indoor flower reacts positively to feeding.

The juice of high aspidistra does not contain natural insecticides, unlike other varieties, therefore it must be treated with chemical preparations against pests.

In summer, the aspidistra is moved to a sunny place. A lighted balcony or loggia is best suited. In winter, watering the flower is reduced and rearranged into the interior of the room for the introduction of the flower during the dormant period.

Reproduction of aspidistra

In nature, asidistra propagates by seeds, but since aspidistra does not bloom in indoor conditions, it is propagated by dividing the rhizome. The flower is divided in late May - early June, during transplantation into a new pot. The rhizome is cut into 3-5 parts, the cuts are processed with crushed coal. Then the roots with a growth bud are planted in separate pots and sprinkled with earth, and the soil is well watered.

Aspidistra growth

Aspidistra grows very slowly. It forms only four new sheets per year. Stimulants can be added to the soil to accelerate growth. You do not need to put the plant under artificial lighting. Bright lighting will stimulate the formation of flower stalks, but due to lack of space and light, the buds will not be able to bloom. Aspidistra will use up a lot of nutrients and strength, and may dry out.
