Information about weaving is how much in sq. m or ha, is known to almost every resident of Russia. Moreover, this term is used as often as "hectares", and more often "square kilometers". At the same time, even realizing that "weaving" is a 10x10 m square, one may encounter problems when quickly converting units of measurement for uneven or too large areas.

Weaving is how many in other units of measurement
To transfer other units to a hundredth, perform such simple arithmetic operations:
- for hectares - multiply by 100, because 1 weaving = 0.01 hectares;
- when converted into square kilometers, multiply by 10,000 (weaving = 0.0001 sq. km);
- for meters - divided by 100 (weaving = 100 sq. m);
- for thousands of square kilometers, in which the sizes of countries and regions are sometimes measured, they are multiplied by 10 million - although such territories are never converted into hundreds.
Multiples to the unit of measurement are such not quite familiar units like decares, which contains exactly 10 acres. In Thai paradise there are already 16. And in an English acre there are about 40.5 acres - although this value cannot be called a multiple of Russian, and the calculations will be approximate.
In Russia, the unit officially used in documents is not "weaving", but "ar". These values are completely the same and equal to 100 sq. m. The word "weaving" is usually used only in colloquial speech.
History of the term
Measuring small plots in hundreds is a tradition that is about 100 years old. In pre-revolutionary Russia, a different name was used - ar. The French term was approved in 1795 and was adopted over time by almost all countries of the world. The name "ar" ("are") was translated as "area".
The origin of the Russian word "weaving" has two versions:
- the term appeared because there are exactly one hundred square meters in one hundred square meters;
- A hundred square meters were named so because the area of a plot of this size is one hundredth of a hectare.
The term first appeared in the Soviet Union, when the population began to allocate plots for summer cottages. Each area was about 400-600 sq. m. It was inconvenient to convert the value into hectares due to its small value. Therefore, the area of summer cottages was measured precisely in hundreds.
Dividing plots into hundreds is a tradition in most countries of the world. Although the unit of measurement is called differently in them - ar. Quite different words and units for determining the size of the territory are used only in the United States and Great Britain. There, the area is expressed in acres, square yards, or miles.
Determination of the area of the site in hundred parts
You can find out how many acres in a garden or summer cottage in different ways.
The most accurate, albeit relatively long, method involves the use of pegs and tape measure:
- First, the boundaries of the site are determined.
- Then pegs are placed at its corners (and most of the territories are a rectangle, in extreme cases - a trapezoid).
- Fix the distances along each side.
- The results are recorded on paper and calculations are performed.
The method is suitable even in cases where the sides of the site are not parallel. But in order to use it, you need a tape measure. If the measuring device is not at hand, you can use the tools at hand. For example, a stick 1 meter long, which can be selected according to the known dimensions of other objects.

- paving slabs (30 cm one side);
- rows of bricks, the height of which, taking into account the mortar, is 77 mm;
- human growth.
Knowing the length, it is easy to determine the size of the site and translate them into hundreds. It will be even faster to take measurements using a tripod made of three poles with a step of a meter. By measuring a distance of 10 meters in each direction, you can get an area equal to 1 are.
If, when determining the area of \ u200b \ u200bthe territory, there are neither measuring instruments, nor suitable sticks and objects by the size of which you can navigate, it is worth using an even more accessible method. True, the measurement accuracy will turn out to be low. The principle of measurement is based on the fact that the length of a human step with an increase of about 180 cm is 0.7 m. Measurement results may require more serious processing and calculations before an accurate area is obtained. If the site is rectangular, it will most likely not be divided into an integer number of squares with sides of 10 m. Applying weaving information
Knowing how much it is, and how to translate it into other units, you can use this knowledge in everyday life. For example, when planning construction on a plot of 6 acres, a house measuring 8 x 10 meters. In this case, it is easier to convert the area of the building in the plan to these units. It will be 0.8 acres, and 5.2 acres of the territory of the dacha will remain free, where you can arrange a garage, greenhouse or bathhouse, create a vegetable garden or arrange a garden. Their areas can also be indicated in the same units. And, although the term "weaving" is usually not used for premises, it is quite suitable for calculating the territory of a summer residence.
Calculation rules are valid in both directions. And, if the ad states that a plot of 9 acres is for sale, buyers can imagine a square measuring 30 x 30 meters, plan the placement of other buildings and landscape design elements. On the other hand, lots are rarely square. And an area of 9 acres can mean a territory measuring 20 x 45 meters, or 25 x 36 m, or even 22 x 41 m - the error in determining areas can reach several square meters.
The most difficult thing is to deal with areas of non-standard shape - triangular, trapezoidal, polygonal. And, although usually when setting the size of the plots, they try to make them at least rectangular, the terrain can correct the results. To solve the problem, it is worth recalling the calculation formulas from school mathematics. It is preferable to break complex figures into several simple ones. It is easy to consider areas in hundreds or square meters for rectangular and other trapezoids or triangles.
