Most of all I liked the lush low bushes with simply gorgeous leaves. They are larger than maple trees and appear to grow straight out of the ground. And if you consider the reddish color around the edges, can you imagine what a wonderful picture this is? As if the carpet had been spread. What is it and will it grow in the central strip?

If you have ever met a garden plant with leaves, like maple, it is no longer possible to forget it. Large leaf plates with delicately cut edges grow tightly to each other and create a chic magic carpet. The magic lies in a wonderful transformation. In spring it is green, and the warmer it gets outside, the more the leaves turn red. At first, a delicate crimson blush appears on their tips, gradually occupying an increasing area and darkening. By autumn, the land is already covered with a burgundy veil, on which remnants of green color are occasionally seen in the center of the leaf.

Not everyone gets a chance to get acquainted with mukdeniya - this is what this culture with maple leaves is called. Among the lucky ones to whom it has taken root, the plant is known as the maple leaf. Here, and without words, you can understand why it received such a nickname. There is no particular secret in the lack of popularity. On the contrary, for a beautiful decorative appearance, many would dream of having such a beauty in their garden. But in the vastness of our homeland, with its cold winters, mukdeniya rarely survives where. Heat-loving bushes are able to grow and winter in open ground only in the southern regions.

The maple leaf has an interesting structure: the bush has no trunk. Leaves grow on long, up to 40 cm, petioles, forming a dense curtain. They are dissected into several lobes (from 5 to 9), diamond-shaped or pointed. At the beginning of the season, the leaves are green, but with the arrival of summer they turn red. In autumn, they completely turn into a crimson flame. Considering the density of the outlets, mukdeniya does an excellent job with the role ground cover.

The decorative maple leaf also blooms, giving the green carpet a special charm. The flowers are small, cream or white, collected in umbellate inflorescences. They bloom along with the leaves in spring, and in some varieties even earlier than them.

Varieties of mucdenia

If you want to try planting a maple leaf in your garden, go for garden species. They are more resistant than hybrids, although not as decorative. It is believed that the maple leaf has only two species, but each of them has a varietal line. Despite the low winter hardiness, they look gorgeous in the garden.

Most often you can find such maple leaves:

1. Ross. Differs in slightly increased winter hardiness and larger leaves.
2. Acantholiferous. Unpretentious, but grows only as an annual, because it does not tolerate low temperatures.
3. Karasuba. Leaves are fleshy, change color completely to burgundy.
4. Nova Flame. A characteristic feature of the hybrid is the shiny surface of the green leaf with a thick crimson edging.
