Reproduction of bacopa by cuttings is an easy and quick way to get young lush bushes

propagation of bacopa by cuttings Many gardeners grow perennial bacopa as an annual, because it cannot survive the winter in the garden. Did you know that propagating bacopa by cuttings will help you avoid the annual mess with seedlings? All that is needed for this is to plant at least one bush not in a flower bed, but in a pot. When autumn comes, just take the bacopa pot to a cool room. There it will overwinter and will be perfectly preserved, and with the arrival of spring it will come to life again.

When and how to propagate bacopa

Like all plants with a pronounced dormant period, Bacopa discards the aboveground part for the winter. Of course, if wintering takes place in cool conditions. In the warmth, the bush continues to grow further. However, it is better to send the flower to rest, otherwise it will weaken and start to hurt. Therefore, do not be alarmed if by the end of winter you see dry shoots in a pot. This is as it should be, because all the nutrients go to the roots in order to drive the young shoots with renewed vigor.

In early February, move your Bacopa to a warm, light home and start watering. She will wake up and release young shoots. When they are older, cut off the twig. It should have at least two buds so that one can be deepened into the ground. As for the size, a length of 10 cm is sufficient.

You can propagate Bacopa earlier. Before you cut the bush and bring it to the basement, cut out young twigs on it and root them. Then by the spring you will already have beautiful lush plants. You can also graft bacopa during summer formative pruning.

Propagation of bacopa by cuttings: rooting and further care of plants

To make the cuttings grow roots faster, after cutting, put them in a growth stimulator for a couple of hours. Before that, remove the bottom leaves.

There are two ways to root cuttings:

  1. In a glass of water. Change the liquid regularly, and when roots appear, plant in the ground.
  2. Immediately in the substrate. It should be light and fertile. Deepen the bottom growth point into the soil, leaving only the top. Cover the top with plastic wrap or a lid to create a greenhouse environment.

Water young bushes obtained from cuttings in a timely manner. Do not forget about the formation so that the bacopa initially grows "correct" and beautiful. When the plants form 2 pairs of leaves, pinch them. This will encourage branching. As the bacopa grows, shorten the branches that are too long protruding from the common foliage cap. Then the bush will be lush and thick. Overgrown bushes can be transplanted to a permanent place in pot, and at the end of May - take it outside. Or, wait and transplant them directly into the ground. As you can see, propagating bacopa by cuttings is not at all difficult, and most importantly, this can be done at any time.
