A lush hydrangea in your garden: choosing the time and place of planting

Flowering shrubs are my disease. At the dacha, there was almost no free space, even along the garden I had to set aside a strip for my favorites. I have not all planted it yet, I plan to plant hydrangeas there. This year I didn't have time to buy seedlings, I had to postpone it until next season. Tell me when is it better to plant a hydrangea and is a light partial shade suitable for it? The free site is just under tall old trees, the sun gets there, but only in the morning.

planting hydrangea The enchanting beauty of hydrangea is not easy to resist. Lush bushes with large inflorescences of the most varied colors decorate the garden until autumn. Most often, deciduous plant species are grown, but there are also evergreen varieties that, even in winter, will be full of bright leaves against the background of snowdrifts.

The flowering shrub has a docile nature and, with proper planting, care for it will be minimal. How to do this and when to plant a hydrangea so that it pleases with its flowering?

Boarding time

Most often hydrangea planted in the ground in the spring, at the beginning of May. There is an opinion among gardeners that spring planting allows you to get a stronger and healthier bush. Over the summer, it will grow up and mature, the twigs will become lignified and easily endure wintering.

However, if the seedlings are healthy and have a well-developed root system, they can be planted in the fall. But this should be done no later than September, otherwise the bushes will not have time to take root before the onset of stable frosts.

For planting, it is better to choose seedlings at least 3 years old. The younger hydrangea takes root extremely reluctantly and is more likely to get sick.

Hydrangea is one of those plants that will grow even better in light shade than in bright sun. The east or west side of the site along the house or outbuildings is the most optimal option for planting shrubs. There he will not suffer from scorching sun rays and drafts.

What kind of land does hydrangea like?

The plant has one requirement for the soil: it must be acidic. When a flower is grown in an alkaline or neutral soil, it begins to suffer from chlorosis and does not develop well.

Based on this, bring into the ground when landing ash or lime is strictly prohibited.

If the soil on the site is slightly acidic, before planting, you can add one of the following components:

  • sawdust;
  • brown peat;
  • coniferous land.

When planting seedlings, it should be borne in mind that the hydrangea grows strongly, so the distance between them must be at least 1 m. Dig a hole up to 50 cm deep and with the same diameter. Add a little humus and sand to this soil and pour it back into the hole, forming a mound in the center. Place a seedling on it, spread the roots and sprinkle with earth so that the root collar protrudes slightly above the surface of the soil.
