When to transplant anthurium after purchase?

Today I bought a blooming handsome man in the store - anthurium. The seller advised to transplant the flower at home. Tell me when to transplant anthurium after purchase and can it be done with a flowering plant?

Plants purchased from flower shops almost always need to be transplanted into a more suitable pot with soil replacement. Quite often, flowers are sold in small plastic containers, and to preserve their beautiful appearance, they are treated with special preparations. Of course, an adult plant cannot develop normally in the absence of space. Anthurium is no exception.

purchased anthurium

When is it better to transplant anthurium after purchase? The answer to this question is unequivocal - right away. Of course, if necessary, you can wait a couple of days, but it is impossible to delay too much with the transplant, otherwise the plant may get sick and die.

After purchase, the plant must be transplanted within three days.

Choosing a pot for transplanting anthurium

The most suitable flowerpot for anthurium transplants there will be a plastic or glass container. It is even better if it is transparent. Since the flower has a powerful root system, it is clearly visible in such a dish when the roots fill the entire volume of the pot and another transplant is required.

Florists who grow plants in clay pots need to take into account that they must be glazed on the inside. Then the roots of the anthurium will not be able to grow into the walls of the flowerpot.

It is better to select a pot not very deep, but wide enough so that excess water does not stagnate and evaporates faster.

Preparing the soil for transplanting

anthurium roots

Anthurium grows well in orchid substrate available in flower shops. You can also prepare a suitable soil for the plant yourself by mixing:

  • two parts of sod and coniferous land, as well as peat;
  • one part of river sand;
  • half of the charcoal and the bark of conifers.

How to transplant anthurium correctly

drainage

Before removing the plant from the shop pot, it should be watered abundantly and left for an hour. Then carefully remove the bush and remove from it all the soil mixture in which it grew. If lumps come across, they are sprayed and softened. Cut off damaged and rotten roots and sprinkle the cut with charcoal.

Put a drainage layer in a pot and fill it with nutritious soil. Place the plant in a pot so that the top of the roots is covered with soil up to two centimeters in height.

If in the future it suddenly turns out that the soil has subsided, and the roots of the anthurium are exposed, you can cover them from above with moss.

transplanted anthurium

When buying a blooming anthurium, there are no special recommendations for transplantation. It is transplanted in exactly the same order as a plant without inflorescences. The first 2-3 weeks after transplantation, anthurium is not fed and watering is reduced, however, it is regularly sprayed.
