Amazing Anguloya Orchid - a sleeping baby in your window

Please tell us how the Anguloya orchid blooms. My brother brought a bulb from a business trip, knowing my passion for these beauties. To everyone's delight, it has taken root and you can already see something that looks like a leaf. I just can't wait to see her flowers, they say they are more beautiful than phalaenopsis. Do Anguloi have special growing requirements?

orchid anguloe Did you know that some orchids can grow in soil and still look like tulips? It would seem that there is a connection between our garden flowers and exotic plants…. The Anguloi Orchid is a direct proof that Mother Nature cannot hold her fantasies. Of course, craftsmen - breeders also contributed their share, improving and diversifying the miracle created by nature - a flower. It is noteworthy that this whimsical, in fact, plant can still be "tamed" and grown at home. However, enough of talking in riddles, let's get to know him better.

Almost all anguloi species, and there are only 13 of them, are aerial plants. Naturally, they grow under trees among moist, moss-covered rocks on the slopes of the Andes in South America. Perennials have an interesting structure. Oval large pseudobulbs produce 3 - 4 long, up to 20 cm, bright green leaves. They form a dense rosette on a stem up to 1 m high.

At its top there is only one flower, but of an original shape. It has bulging sepals like a tulip and a three-lobed lip. The color of the flower can be white, red or yellow, there are also spotted species. From the inflorescence comes a pleasant mixed smell of cinnamon, mint and chocolate. Anguloya blooms from the end of spring for 2 months.

For the shape of the inflorescences, angula is often called an orchid - a tulip. Among florists, there is a more affectionate nickname - "Sleeping baby". Indeed, the flowers resemble a baby wrapped in a diaper.

The subtleties of growing anguloi at home

yellow anguloiNot all growers can cope with an unusual orchid. Firstly, it requires a lot of space, because even as a room culture it grows more than 60 cm in height. Second, and most importantly, it needs a humid and warm climate, but with differences between day and night temperatures.

If you decide to purchase a flower, pay attention to the following points:

  1. Anguloya loves light, but not the south window. The lighting should be good, but diffuse.
  2. For flowering, it is important that there is a temperature difference between daytime and nighttime content. In summer it should be around 26 ° during the day and 18 ° at night.
  3. Again, the orchid in winter must rest in a cool content to set the flower stalk. In this case, the difference will be 18 ° C in the daytime and 10 ° C at night.
  4. In summer, the soil in the pot should not dry out, because anguloya is demanding on moisture. It needs to be watered often, but it is better in a tray. In winter, however, watering can be reduced. At the same time, the air humidity for the plant is also important - at least 70%.
  5. Almost all year round, except for winter, the bush needs feeding.
  6. From November to March, the orchid needs a cool dormant period. Accordingly, watering is reduced, and top dressing is completely removed.

The orchid will be as comfortable as possible in winter garden or a greenhouse where the humidity is high.
