DIY mineral fertilizers for flowers
Regular feeding of ornamental plants, especially indoor plants, is the basis for their successful cultivation. These plants have limited growth space. In addition, the volume of the soil is also small, and over time, the reserves of nutrients in it are depleted. Therefore, it is so important to replenish the reserves of trace elements using mineral supplements.
In specialized stores there is a large selection of ready-made mineral fertilizers for flowers, however, if desired, nutritional mixtures and solutions can be prepared with your own hands. In terms of quality and principle of operation, they are no different from store-bought fertilizers, because the main components are purchased there.
The main condition for making mineral fertilizers with your own hands is to adhere to the exact dosage so as not to harm the plants.
Nutrient solution for flowering plants
During flowering, pets on the windowsill are especially in need of additional nutrition. During this period, they most of all need phosphorus fertilizing.
To prepare top dressing you will need:
- superphosphate (instructions for use in the garden) - 1.5 g;
- ammonium sulfate - 1 g;
- potassium salt - 1 g
Combine all ingredients with 1 liter of water, mix well. Use for watering flowering plants at the root every 7 days.
Mineral mixture for decorative flowers
For root dressing of deciduous crops, once every 7-10 days, it is good to use the following ratio of trace elements per liter of water:
- superphosphate - 0.5 g;
- ammonium nitrate - 0.4 g;
- potassium nitrate - 0.1 g
Mineral fertilizers from improvised means
Liquid mineral fertilizer can also be made with the help of available tools, for example, from wood ash left over from a holiday fire for a barbecue or cleaning the garden. This top dressing contains many trace elements, but a very small amount of nitrogen, and is recommended for application during the flowering period. It is very simple to prepare a liquid infusion: stir 75 g of ash in 5 liters of water and let it brew for 15-20 minutes. Strain.
The ready-made solution should be used immediately, it cannot be stored.
To replenish the deficiency of individual elements in flowers, the following fertilizers can be made:
- With a lack of calcium... Infusion on eggshells: chop 5 eggshells, pour a liter of boiling water and leave for 5 days. Water at the root. Crushed shells are also good for adding to the soil.
- With a lack of potassium and nitrogen. Banana peel infusion: 3 banana skins pour boiling water (1 l), let stand for 4 hours. Use for watering. Add chopped fresh peel to the soil.
