Finding out when to plant linden and how to do it right

Tell me when to plant linden? I like herbal teas very much, especially lime tea. I ordered a seedling in the nursery last year, but they did not bring it. I'm waiting, maybe this spring or autumn will be. When is it better to plant it and where?

Linden is an indispensable attribute of city parks and alleys. Thanks to the lush crown, fragrant flowering and unpretentious nature, it is often found near private houses. Knowing when to plant a linden tree and what it loves, you can get a gorgeous honey tree that will provide tasty and healthy raw materials for aromatic tea. If you don't want to mess with seeds and there is nowhere to take cuttings, buying a seedling is one of the most reliable and affordable ways to get a plant. Although linden is not capricious, it grows rather slowly. And from a sapling in 5-6 years a tree of quite decent size will grow.

When to plant linden

In general, for growing linden, the recommendations are used that are used when planting garden fruit and berry crops. This means that it can be planted both in spring and autumn. However, from the practice of gardeners, it has been noticed that the survival rate of seedlings is higher if the weather is cool and humid. Therefore, it is best to plant linden in the fall.

When planting in spring, there is another risk: young sprouts in an immature tree freeze under recurrent frosts.

Where to plant

Linden is distinguished by its unpretentiousness and can grow both in the sun and in the shade. But in order for the flowering to be abundant, it is better to take a well-lit area for it. It is not particularly demanding on the composition of the soil, the main thing is that water does not stagnate at the planting site. Excess moisture for a tree is undesirable and even destructive: it will begin to hurt and may disappear altogether.

When planning a planting, it should be borne in mind that linden is a tall plant. In 15-20 years, it will reach an impressive size, and the dense linden crown will not give a chance to survive the crops that are under its cover.

How to plant

Linden grows best on sandstones, but it is advisable to enrich the soil before planting. To do this, you should:

• dig a planting hole 70 cm deep and about 50 cm in diameter;
• lay a drainage layer;
• pour over humus;
• install a seedling;
• mix the excavated soil with compost, sand and 50 g superphosphate;
• cover the seedling with the prepared soil mixture;
• water abundantly.

For the first time, while the linden is still young, set a peg next to it and tie it up. The trunk circle can be mulched so that moisture does not evaporate quickly.
