Urea in horticulture - terms and features of application
Urea in horticulture is an irreplaceable assistant, which you simply cannot do without. It not only helps to grow beautiful trees and shrubs, but also protects their health. What is interesting about this drug for gardeners, and how to use it? This is what will be discussed today.
When can trees be treated with urea
The timing of the use of carbamide depends on the purpose of the procedure. For prevention, the first treatment should be done as early as possible. As soon as the snow melts and you can enter the garden, you need to get to work. It is important to have time to spray the trees before the buds bloom on them. Depending on the regional climate, the use of carbamide in horticulture can be started in March-April.
Also, urea treatment is carried out before winter, around mid-autumn. Foliage serves as a guide: when about 40% falls off, you can start, but not earlier. Premature spraying will lead to the awakening of growth processes. Regrown young shoots simply will not survive the winter.
Sometimes top dressing with urea is done in summer, for example, if the trees subsequently stopped growing after drought. However, the dose should be 10 times less - 50-70 g of the drug per bucket of water.
Urea in horticulture: application, norms
In early spring, not only trees wake up, but also begin to act pests... In addition, branches are often covered with aphid larvae, which have successfully overwintered and is just waiting in the wings. If left as it is, insects will soon hatch. They pretty much harm not only the plants, eating their foliage, but also the future harvest. Therefore, it is important not to give aphids any chance, and urea will help protect the garden from it.
It is better to treat trees with a mixture of carbamide and copper sulfate (700 and 50 g, respectively) to enhance the effect. All this is diluted in 10 liters of water. Some people use Bordeaux mixture for early spring processing.
However, urea has two benefits:
- She will not only destroy bacteria and pests, but also give the first feeding. With the arrival of heat, the drug will be absorbed into the bark and carry nitrogen along the branches, stimulating their growth and giving a good start.
- Urea inhibits vegetation. The buds of trees treated with the drug will wake up and begin to open at least 1 week later. Accordingly, the flowering time is also shifted, which means that the risk of suffering from recurrent frosts is significantly reduced.
With a solution of urea and vitriol, it is necessary to spray the entire tree abundantly so that the branches flow. Also abundantly wet the trunk circle, spilling last year's leaves lying under the tree. Urea stimulates the decomposition of organic matter, and the foliage will rot faster. Another drug will destroy spores of fungi and pests.
