Kampsis Madame Galen Campsis grow in almost every garden, creating picturesque arches and walls with their weaving vines. The most common Madame Galen hybrid campis with its bright orange flowers. Why is he so fond of gardeners and what does a perennial prefer?

Description of the plant

Like all Kampsis, Madame Gelen is a fast-growing perennial vine. For a year, a young seedling can stretch up to 2 m in height. The height of an adult bush, which is regularly cut off, averages 4 m. Along the entire length of the shoots, except for the lignified lower part, beautiful carved leaves are densely located. Usually there are an odd number of them. The leaf plate is complex-pinnate, with an unpaired number of oval serrated leaflets. The first pair is usually lighter, and towards the end of the leaf the “feathers” become dark green in color. The entire leaf is quite large, up to 40 cm in length.

On the shoots of vines, over time, a kind of antennae appear, more like small roots. With them, she clings to the support and crawls along it.

In the third year of life, Kampsis blooms in the middle of summer. Flowering lasts until the arrival of autumn. Sometimes the last bud opens in October if it's warm. The large buds are like bells with a long neck. They are orange, but with a red tint inside. The length of one bell is 8 cm, and the diameter of an open flower is almost equal to its size. At the end of flowering, Kampsis sets fruits in the form of long capsule pods. Inside them are flat seeds.

Campsis Madame Galen is a hybrid cultivar, the parents of which are the Campsis Grandiflora and rooting.

Campsis Madame Galen: cultivation features

For planting a perennial liana, it is better to take a sunny area without a draft - there it will bloom more abundantly. The bush is not picky about the soil, except for one thing: swampy areas are definitely not for him. When moisture stagnates, the plant begins to ache.

Campsis Madame Galen is unpretentious in principle. Caring for him consists in performing simple activities, namely:

  1. Water, not allowing the soil under the bush to dry out.
  2. Cover young plants for the winter.
  3. Be sure to install support for young Kampsisso they don't break.
  4. Organize an arch or trellis, allowing the kampsis to grow vertically.

Since the vine grows quickly, it is necessary to prune it every spring, shortening branches and cutting out too thin and weak.
