Clematis is one of the best crops for vertical gardening. Long strings are a characteristic feature of these perennial shrubs. They are able to crawl on the ground, covering it with a flower carpet, but clematis on a support feel much better. For abundant and lush flowering, the liana needs good lighting of the aboveground part. If the roots of clematis love shading, then the whips themselves require the sun. As a ground cover, clematis can get sick, and they do not bloom so colorful. But the bushes growing on the support form more buds. Therefore, when growing this crop, it is important to know how to make an arch for clematis. On the one hand, this is not difficult, because thanks to special antennae, the stems are well fixed. However, it should be borne in mind that in most varieties, flowering occurs on young shoots, and they are fragile. A long branch under the weight of the buds can break without support, or collapse if it is not strong. The most durable and stable are metal arches. It is much easier to make a wall trellis from wood planks or mesh. And you can even make a simple vertical support from two posts and wire with female hands.

How to make an arch for clematis from pipes?

Today there are ready-made arches on sale, but their price makes you think about a more affordable option. And one of them is an arch made of duralumin pipes. Such material is cheaper, moreover, amenable to formation, but rather durable. And if you strengthen the structure with a mesh, the arch will be even more reliable, and it will be more convenient for clematis lashes to cling to.

Making an arch from pipes is not difficult. For this you need:

1. Bend 2 tubes in an arc.
2. Connect them by screwing the cross tubes with screws. There should be at least two of them, but preferably several at equal intervals.
3. Paint the workpiece.
4. Pull a coarse mesh over the resulting structure.
5. Install the arch by deepening the tube posts at least 40 cm into the soil.

If you make several of these arches and connect them together, you get a large beautiful arch.

Wooden or mesh trellis for clematis

It is not necessary for the arch to cover the entire yard. Clematis looks beautiful on trellis... You can make it from wooden slats. It is not worth using too massive, 40x10 mm strips are enough. From them you can knock down either a ladder or a semblance of a lattice. It attaches to a wall or fence. You can also make an upright trellis. It should be borne in mind that a leaf should "crawl" into the cells formed. Therefore, they should not be small, but not very large, about 10x10 cm, but no more than 20 cm.

Instead of rails, a coarse mesh stretched over supports on both sides is also suitable.

Simple vertical support from posts with stretched "strings"

For low varieties of clematis, a small vertical arch is suitable. It will be based on two pipes that need to be dug in on both sides of the bush. The distance between the pipes depends on the crown width and should be approximately equal to it.Wooden posts can be used instead of pipes.

Now it remains only to pull the wire or a strong twine between the two supports and an interval of 20 cm. As clematis grows, the shoots need to be tied to the wire.
