Young branches are covered with dark smooth bark, which with age gives deep cracks, creating a mysterious pattern on the shoots and trunk. And they also have many long, up to 2 cm, thorns, for which the culture is also known as the "devil's tree".

The scientific name of the plant reflects its structure: dark green leaves are divided into 7 lobes. Their length is at least 25 cm, and by autumn the color changes to golden. Kalopanax blooms at the end of summer, and its inflorescences are completely different from earrings walnut... Small white flowers with a yellow tint, collected in large brushes, bloom at the tips of the branches. And by mid-autumn, round fruits ripen in their place - small dark berries with juicy pulp. The most interesting thing is that they are poisonous and not suitable for food.
