Unusual uses of rhubarb: decorating bouquets

rhubarb for decorating bouquets The main area of using rhubarb is cooking: a variety of jams and pies are prepared from young juicy stalks. The plant is also important for traditional medicine, as it contains a rich complex of vitamins and minerals. Rhubarb leaves and roots are included in the composition of drugs for the treatment of various diseases.

However, there is another area in which rhubarb is also commonly used - in floristry. Experts create real masterpieces from old plant shoots, adding them to compositions when making bouquets. Large petioles can even be the basis of an original bouquet, giving it a unique look, especially when combined with unpretentious flowers that grow in almost every flower bed.

With a little imagination, you can make such an unusual bouquet yourself. The main thing is to stock up on rhubarb shoots and have several types of flowers on hand, for example:

  • day-lily;
  • dahlias;
  • decorative or ordinary dill;
  • feverweed.

How to make the base of a rhubarb bouquet?

Most often, rhubarb serves as the basis of the bouquet, on which ornamental plants and flowers are fixed. To do it, you must:

  • cut the old thick stems of the plant near the soil and remove the leaves;
  • choose the most even stems from the stems so that the base is more beautiful and stable;
  • pull them off with special floristic tape.

If you wish, you can pick up shoots of the same height, but a composition with stems of different lengths will look more impressive. The second option is more suitable if the tall petioles have a curved shape - then trimmed short shoots can be inserted into the voids.

Add flowers

First of all, flowers with the longest stems, for example, daylily, are inserted into the bouquet. It will be more convenient to place them at the beginning of the formation of the base, placing them between the rhubarb.

When collecting a bouquet, it is better to arrange the flower stalks so that they protrude slightly. At the end of the work, they will need to be trimmed - so fresh cuts will immediately fall into the water and the flowers will not have time to stick.

Now you need to prepare the flowers: completely cut off the petals of the inflorescences from the dahlias, also remove the largest leaves at the bottom of the stem. Dill undergoes an almost similar procedure - all the leaves are cut off and only inflorescences remain. Tear off only the lower leaves of the erythematosus

We collect the bouquet: first add the erythematosus to the daylily, placing it one level below. Next, place the dahlias and dill. It is better to arrange flowers in such a way that they are at different levels and do not overlap. If necessary, more rhubarb shoots can be inserted between the flowers.

Tie the finished composition with twine or tape and place in a container with water, having previously trimmed the flower shoots with an even cut (not oblique).
