Can sludge from a septic tank be used as fertilizer?

We use autonomous septic tank in the country for several years. Every time when it becomes necessary to carry out cleaning, we puzzle over what to do with the accumulated sludge. It is said to be a completely natural fertilizer. I would like to know - is it possible to use sludge from a septic tank as fertilizer in the garden and flower garden?

Definitely, the answer in this case will be yes. Sludge from a septic tank can act as a first-class organic fertilizer. But in order to accurately reassure people who are wondering whether it is possible to use sludge from a septic tank as fertilizer, it should be answered in more detail.

What is this silt

Mostly organic waste (saliva, urine, feces) gets into any septic tank, which undergoes complex processing by special bacteria. They recycle this waste, dividing it into two components - sludge and water.

Sludge from a septic tank

In fact, the same process takes place here as on the compost heap, where the zealous owners of summer cottages and vegetable gardens try to send any organic matter. However, due to the special, specially created conditions, the processing process is many times faster. Therefore, after a few weeks, bacteria convert any waste of human life into high-quality fertilizer - this process takes many months on a compost heap.

Is all sludge useful?

If you are determined to use sludge from a septic tank as fertilizer, you should follow certain safety rules. Should not be drained to the toilet chemicals, whether it be liquid soap, water after cleaning floors, or detergents for cleaning plumbing. Also, do not allow the entry of heavy salts and other hazardous substances. After all, you want to get a useful fertilizer, which means that only organic substances should accumulate in the septic tank.

Sludge preparation for use

It is not always convenient to use fresh, freshly extracted sludge from a septic tank.

Not dried sludge from a septic tank

Therefore, it is better to carry out preliminary preparation - drying. This can be done by heat treatment, or simply lay out in a thin layer and dry outside on a warm, windy day. As a result of processing, the sludge turns into dry granules, which are convenient to use immediately or after a while. The granules are odorless and mix easily with the soil to ensure the most even distribution in the soil.

Is it possible to use sludge from the biological treatment plant as fertilizer for lawn grass? Everything that usually goes down the drain, including soap, etc., is discharged into the station. In my opinion, it is impossible to divide and merge only organic matter into the station. To do this, you would have to make two sewer systems, and even washing the toilet would not work out normally ...
The real question is that the sludge would only be used for the lawn, and not for the crops used for food.

For a lawn, this sludge can be used.

Hello, an interesting article. I have a similar question about private stations. Is it possible to use sludge from local mushrooms for growing? Thanks in advance for your reply.

This sludge can be used to improve the quality of the soil in which the mushrooms will be grown. This means that when the components are mixed, sludge is added.
