Soil for plumeria: optimal composition and how to make a substrate at home

Tell me, what kind of soil is needed for plumeria? I bought this beauty about two years ago and during this time I have never transplanted. The bush has long outgrown its pot (also still a store one) and I finally decided to move the plant into a new container. I usually buy a universal substrate for my indoor plants. Will it fit plumeria?

soil for plumeria Plumeria not only blooms beautifully, but is also unpretentious: on the southern window, where most flowers suffer from the sun, it bask in its rays. For annually flowering, good lighting is simply necessary for her, and it is also important which soil for the plumeria was chosen. A well-developed root system does not tolerate stagnant moisture and prefers a breathable soil. And by choosing the right pot for the plant and replanting it on time, you can grow a whole tree.

universal substrate

Like all flowering crops, plumeria needs fertile soil. And given that it does not tolerate stagnant water, the earth must still be loose. Dense soil dries out for a long time and there is a risk of root rot. You can use an all-purpose potting medium available in flower shops.

It is recommended to add some sand and vermiculite to make the store earth more breathable.

soil mixture for plumeriaIf desired, a substrate suitable for a flower can be easily prepared at home by mixing:

  • 2 shares of sod land;
  • 1 share of sand, humus and peat.

"Home" soil must be disinfected before planting a bush. To do this, it can be spilled with potassium permanganate or baked in the oven.

What kind of pot does Plumeria need

pot for plumeriaPlumeria is characterized by rapid growth of both the aerial part and the roots. It is better to take a plastic flowerpot - roots can grow to plastic dishes. But regarding the size, it depends on how big you want to see the blooming beauty. If it is possible to keep large plants in the house, plumeria should be planted in large containers. Of course, as long as it is small, and the pot will be compact at first. But every year it will need to increase its volume.

In the case when free space is in short supply, the growth of the flower can be restrained. For this, it is just not necessary to increase the flowerpot, but it is necessary to shorten the roots by pruning them.

How often to transplant a flower

It is better to transplant plumeria in the spring, by increasing the flowerpot or trimming the root system. The frequency of transplants depends on the age of the plant: young trees are transplanted annually. For adult specimens, it is enough to carry out the procedure every 2-3 years. If you already have a whole tree that is difficult to replant completely, simply replace the topsoil.
