Two ways of grafting cherries on cherries

grafting cherries on cherries Many gardeners plant cherries on a different tree variety and do not consider grafting the cuttings on other trees. But cherries take root well on other stone fruit trees, especially cherries. Cherries are not grafted onto cherries due to the fact that they are afraid of rejection of the cuttings. But cherries need to be grafted differently from other fruit trees. There are a few things to consider.

General principles of vaccination

Fruit trees re-inoculation above the main vaccination. If you plant a cultivar below the junction of the rootstock and the scion, the scion will die. In addition, the graft may be rejected due to incompatibility between the wild variety and the new scion. If you plant a new cutting on a cultivar, the chance of rejection will be lower. The new graft should be at least 20 cm higher from the junction of the rootstock and the scion. If you are grafting a stalk on an old tree, then graft on a top.

Improved copulation method

To graft cherries on cherries, you must select a young shoot and cut it off by 5-10 cm.

It is important that the rootstock and scion are moist, so it is necessary to constantly wet the cutting in water.

An oblique cut is made on the handle. Three scion diameters are cut. It is advisable to make a cut with a sharp knife at a time. Then a "tongue" is made on the rootstock, cutting through the cambium of the tree by about a third of the diameter of the scion. The same tongue is made on the scion. Then the stalk and rootstock are connected and fastened with electrical tape. The stalk must be cut into three buds, and the cut must be covered with soda water.

Bark grafting

There is another grafting method, which is used only if stone fruit trees are grafted onto cherries. This method is used to rejuvenate fruit trees. Grafting for the bark is that the stock is cut with a secateurs by 2-5 cm, and then cut into three diameters of the scion. The cut is made close to the bark. Then, the same oblique cut is made on the handle as in the copulation method. The cut in the rootstock must be moistened, and then the scion must be inserted into it. The junction of the stock and the scion is wrapped with electrical tape. It turns out an artificial bitch.

The advantage of this method is that two varieties of cherries can be grafted onto one stock. You just need to cut through the stock from both sides. Cuttings are cut into three buds. The rootstock and cuttings must be covered with garden varnish for better survival. In this case, two grafted cuttings are fastened together with electrical tape, and not just the stock and the scion.
