What are shraba roses?
It is simply impossible to answer the question of what rose shrubs are in one word. Scrubs mean not one species, but a whole set of groups of plants that have different characteristics, including those with a different shape and height of the bush. It is not for nothing that such roses are also called landscape (park) roses, because they are widely used in landscape design, both in the form of individual plantings and for creating group compositions.
These roses tolerate pruning well, so you can form whole flower sculptures.
The shrubs themselves can be divided into three groups, depending on the height of the shrub:
- curly roses are the tallest, from 5 to 15 m in height;
- medium-sized climbing roses (from 3 to 5 m);
- half-leafing roses are the lowest representatives of no more than 3 m in height.
Individual features of the species
Despite the variety of varieties, all scrubs are characterized by very lush flowering. In addition, the distinctive features of this group of plants are:
- Very long and continuous flowering period. Roses form new buds all summer until autumn.
- A wide range of colors of inflorescences. Some varieties have striped or variegated petals.
- Different sizes and shapes of flowers, from simple and large - to double and small.
- Different colors of the leaves: all shades of green and even red.
- Most of the scrub varieties have a persistent aroma.
- Enhanced growth. Flexible shoots grow 1.5 m in length per year.
- High winter hardiness and resistance to diseases and pests. Some species are capable of wintering at temperatures below 30 degrees below zero.
- Unpretentious care.
The only inconvenience that scrub care brings is pruning the bushes, especially the tall ones.
Bright representatives of roses scrubs
Each variety related to scrubs is beautiful in its own way, and the choice of graceful handsome men is simply huge, as they say, for every taste and color. For example, such delicate and fragrant roses as:
- Artemis... Round, like balls, double flowers form large inflorescences up to 10 pieces in one. The inner petals are white with a delicate creamy shade, while the outer ones are slightly greenish. It has a strong aroma. The tall bush needs shelter for the winter.
- Ilse Krohn Superior... A vigorous representative of climbing roses, blooms until frost. Large, fragrant young flowers at first have a creamy shade, and then turn white until wilting. In a fully blossoming flower, the petals are twisted, while no more than 3 pieces are included in the inflorescence.
- Hamburger Phoenix. From the floribunda group, medium-sized inflorescences (about 8 cm) are bright red, turn pink when wilted, have a delicate aroma. The bush has a strong growth (height 3 m) and needs shelter for the winter.
- Gazebo... Lush apricot flowers give off a tart aroma and do not fade in the sun. The height of the bush reaches 120 cm, flowering takes place in three waves, while the first inflorescences are the largest. The variety tolerates hot summers well and is able to hibernate without shelter.
- Abraham Derby... This is a chameleon rose, it can change the color of the buds depending on the weather conditions.The unbroken bud is yellowish at first, but as the petals open, they acquire a pink tint. The flowers are double, large (up to 14 cm in diameter), with a fruity-lemon aroma. Under the influence of the sun, the rose can turn soft peach, deep pink or acquire a yellow tint. The variety is one of the hardiest, and blooms without interruption from June to early October.
